This particular volume was penned by William C.

This is the first volume of the 1980's Time Life set on the War Between the States, and like all the following volumes this one is a highly illustrated, brief, yet quality introduction to the subject matter. I know the series was popular for a time because it was taken off the shelves, and I'm lucky I found this and the Lincoln Assasination book in my closet from a birthday present when I was 8. I can't wait to buy out the entire series, but I'm horrified of the price. It doesn't hide slavery at all but also goes in depth to the economic causes of the war, which I knew but didn't really "know" until I read this book. Here's looking at you, Ron Chernow) but very eye-opening. It's a brief overview (imagine the size of a book that WASN'T a brief overview of the causes of the war, good lord, you could brick your house with it. Yet it was 3AM and it was like I was binge watching Breaking Bad. It was 3AM here and I found myself unable to sleep because of the bombardment at Fort Sumter. Took me a few months to finish, but I did so in about three sittings.
